Junior Club Captains 2023/24 Season!
Ruby Mahuika ... Joint Junior Club Captain, Ruby's athletic journey spans an impressive seven years, with the last three dedicated to our Club. This year marks a significant milestone as she competes in her final Colgate Games, participating in events across both the North and South Islands. A regular presence at most Saturday meets in Christchurch, Ruby consistently represents our club with pride and distinction. Her time with us has seen remarkable growth, not just in her athletic abilities but also in her personal development. Her ongoing commitment and development are a source of inspiration and pride for our club and community, and we eagerly anticipate her future contributions and achievements. |
Amya Bird ... Amya steps into one of our Junior Club Captains roles, marking a turning point in her journey with us. Having been an integral part of our club for the past four years, she brings passion and dedication to the SCAAC community. Amya's involvement extends beyond her own training and competition. She's a familiar and supportive presence at our club, actively engaging in our Wednesday sessions focused on the Run, Jump, and Throw program for our younger athletes, as well as contributing to our Saturday club and regional competitions. Her appointment is recognition of her leadership qualities and pivotal role in nurturing the development of our junior athletes. We are excited about Amya's future with our club, both in her capacity as a leader and as a competitor. |
Run Jump Throw.
Run Jump Throw is run every Wednesday from 5:30pm till 6:30pm. This programme is offered to 6 - 11 year olds of all abilities, and uses modified equipment and games to help maximise participation and enjoyment. The programme uses a bottom-up approach to teach skills and adaptations needed for athletics movements – so participants can learn the necessary fundamental skills and basic movement patterns in an inclusive, positive and supportive environment, and continue to refine their skills through our athletics club following on after they leave the programme. Participants will learn, grow their confidence and be challenged at their own pace. * Venue: Martins Field, College Road, Timaru * Time: 5:30pm - 6:30pm |

Athletics Needs You!
VOLUNTEER OFFICIALS MAKE IT HAPPEN!
As a community we are dependant on volunteer helpers and officials, without whom we are unable to run regional, school, inter-club or even club events. New Zealand Athletics along with Athletics Canterbury offer an official's training programme, which can be done either in person or online. Participating in these programmes will help you better understand the basic rules of each event, and are open to everyone - including parents, caregivers, older athletes and coaches. For more details please contact the club or visit https://athletics.org.nz/ . |
